Students compete in Academic Bowl

October 27, 2015

The sixth annual Honors College Academic Bowl takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 31 in the IUPUI Campus Center.

Teams of four students will put their knowledge of the arts, sciences, history and math on display in a contest format similar to the TV show “Jeopardy.” Writers and editors with National Academic Quiz Tournaments provide the questions. IUPUI faculty will serve as moderators.

“It’s a fun day, with the opportunity for teams from across campus departments to compete for some prizes and a chance to represent IUPUI,” said Shane Collins, advisor for the Honors College Student Council, which sponsors the annual event.

Open to the public, the contest usually draws family members and faculty, as well as students, as spectators.

“The past few years, teams of upperclassmen have ended up winning,” said Luke Fisher, president of the Honors College Student Council. “This year, we’re expecting a lot of younger teams to challenge them, so it will be interesting to see if there is an upset.”

The winning team will represent IUPUI at the regional Academic Bowl competition. Prizes include a phone charger and a Bluetooth speaker system for cellphones.
