Lilly scholars named
June 16, 2015
I congratulate the Lilly Endowment as it marks the 18th year of the Community Scholarship Program and I am happy to announce that three of the 2015 class of Lilly scholars are IUPUI-bound.
These recent high school graduates chosen from throughout the state will receive full tuition (with all required fees) as well as $900 per year for books and supplies. In the Independent Colleges Indiana announcement June 4, the three prospective IUPUI students, their hometowns and intended majors are:
- Sarah Posante; Sellersburg, Ind.; dentistry.
- Brieann Staker; Fortville, Ind.; medicine.
- Anthony Fitz II; Monticello, Ind.; nursing.
This fall, they will become part of one of the nation’s premier urban research and health sciences campuses. Their choice is consistent with overall IUPUI rising levels of scholastic achievement -- based on GPAs, test scores and class ranking -- for incoming freshmen.
They will find academic programs that take advantage of both our IU and Purdue connections as well as our unique urban location that enhances service-learning curriculum, community engagement, rapport and interaction with corporate and government sectors and a broad range of mentoring, internship and placement opportunities.
Our faculty lead the world in research from the life sciences to the liberal arts and have developed award-winning programs that help students succeed in achieving their academic goals, including nationally recognized service learning, undergraduate research and effective first-year experience programs for students.
I congratulate these young people and join in the celebration of their achievement! I am confident that their experience on and off campus as part of the IUPUI family will soundly affirm the higher education choice of these outstanding Lilly scholars!
