'A Day On, Not a Day Off': IUPUI community celebrates King's legacy with events, community service

January 21, 2015

The IUPUI Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Dinner is the longest-running MLK event in the city. The MLK gala was launched in 1970 and connected the IUPUI campus with the community.

This year was the 14th annual MLK Day of Service work day, supporting area programs and agencies that exemplify King’s vision. In 2014, more than 500 students, faculty and staff participated, sponsored by the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning and the Office of Student Involvement

The 2015 keynote speaker at the dinner was Marc Lamont Hill of Morehouse College in Atlanta. He is the host of HuffPost Live and BET News. The topic was “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution.”
