During the State of the Campus address on Nov. 1, Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar announced the Welcoming Campus Innovation Fund, designed to inspire a variety of projects that can be implemented in advance of IUPUI's 50th-anniversary year, which occurs in 2018-19. This fund will provide internal grants of up to $25,000, with a match by the proposing unit, to support implementation of recommendations emerging from the Welcoming Campus Initiative, specifically related to these overarching themes:
- Creating a vibrant and inclusive student experience
- Designing an accessible, inspiring urban campus
- Investing in faculty and staff
- Communicating who we are
- Engaging and integrating with the community
Funded projects are intended to be collaborative in nature, and funding priority will be given to those activities transcending more than one academic unit or division at IUPUI. Involvement by faculty, staff, students and community partners is encouraged. Each project will include a plan for evaluation, scalability and sustainability, including potential sources of external funds to support the project's activities beyond initial implementation.
Guidelines for the Welcoming Campus Innovation Fund will be announced in January 2017. Proposals for funding will be due in mid-spring 2017, with project implementation set to occur during the time frame July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018, a year prior to IUPUI's 50th anniversary. Two workshops to provide information about the fund, including how to write a proposal for funding, have been scheduled:
- Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, 3-4 p.m., Lilly Auditorium, University Library
- Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, 9-10 a.m., Lilly Auditorium, University Library
Chancellor Paydar has asked that the Welcoming Campus Innovation Fund be led by Stephen Hundley, senior advisor to the chancellor for planning and institutional improvement, and Christine Fitzpatrick, chief of staff, Office of the Chancellor. Hundley and Fitzpatrick will convene and co-chair a Welcoming Campus Innovation Fund Committee composed of representatives from IUPUI's faculty, staff, students and community partners. This committee will review proposals, make funding recommendations, monitor project implementation and promote the impact that projects are making across IUPUI.
You can find more information about IUPUI's Welcoming Campus Initiative and forthcoming 50th anniversary on the chancellor's website.
