Jaguars excelling in classroom
February 16, 2016
The IUPUI Jaguars made their mark emphatically in campus classrooms during the fall, leading the Summit League in both distinguished scholar and fall academic honor roll selections for the first semester of 2015-16.
Distinguished scholars are athletes who earned at least a 3.60 grade-point-average, and IUPUI had 41 such honorees. The academic honor roll spotlights athletes who post at least a 3.0 GPA. The Jaguars also led that category, with 76.
IUPUI's 41 distinguished scholars eclipsed the totals of Omaha (with 39), South Dakota (36) and South Dakota State (35). The classroom excellence contributed to IUPUI's overall 3.33 department-wide GPA during the first semester.
Among the fall sports, women's cross-country had 15 players selected as distinguished scholars, while volleyball and women's soccer had 11 players each. Men's cross-country and men's soccer had two athletes each similarly honored.

The academic recognition continued a strong classroom tradition for IUPUI Intercollegiate Athletics. During the fall semester, better than 75 percent of Jaguar student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher, including 30 who attained a 4.0 mark. Fall also marked the 14th consecutive semester than IUPUI athletics cumulatively surpassed the 3.0 GPA mark.
